On-Road, Off-Road or Monster Truck?
Cars are definitely one of the best ways to get started in R/C! There are many kinds of R/C cars and trucks available, so if this is your first car, you'll have to make a couple of choices...
Monster Trucks
If you're looking for on-road curb bashing and off road trucking, you just can't beat a monster truck. These trucks go over 40mph and can be jumped 10+ feet in the air. Tons of bodies, wheels and tires are available to customise your truck any way you like. You can get Hummer H2 bodies, chrome wheels and some great street tires or build a super-duty F-350! Any way you slice it, it's hard to go wrong with a monster truck like these great values.
On Road Cars
If you're after all out speed on pavement, you'll want to look into an on-road car. These 1/10th scale cars have real suspensions with shocks and are tuned for handling on pavement only (you might get through a few feet of grass, but that's it, if you want to run one though your yard, read on...). Best of all, you can get just about any body for these cars including BMWs, Mustangs, Ferraris, Stratus, and more!
Off-Road Buggies and Stadium Trucks
Off-road buggies have high suspensions with good ground clearance and run well both off-road and on-road. 1/8th scale buggies really scream off-road with their .21 cubic inch engines powering them.
Nitro or Electric
Once you've decided between off-road, on-road, or Monster Truck, you'll be able to pick between electric or nitro power.
If you love the power and sound of a real engine you'll want to look at the nitro powered cars. These engines take some tuning but the result is a very fast car. Some even have automatic 2-speed transmissions for that extra speed you need.
Electrics are easy to deal with, clean, and always ready to go when you are. Just charge up a battery (which takes about 20 minutes) and you're all set. Electric cars can rival gas cars for speed when equipped with modified motors and high-capacity batteries. They handle well too because of their lower center-of-gravity.
